He brought them to the pro shop at the lanes and they used a drummel and sandpaper to roughen them. He's bowled 6 games since and is just now able to bowl without being hesitant that he is going to slip and hurt himself. He says the shoes look great and the size is perfect. They are black, so they match just about everything. They are not for walking outside, so don't mistake for typical walking shoes. They have a fabric coating on the toe of the underside of the shoe (both shoes). I know some bowling shoes have this on only one side (my friend has a pair like that) and if you have it on the wrong side, it can be trouble (like wearing regular shoes that squeaking down the lane).
